We are looking for any and all parents, family members or friends of Valley Middle School of STEM to help us create a success career fair for our 7th grade students.

Our students will cycle through the career fair in 3 groups and will come to you and ask questions to learn more about what careers are available and what they need to do to have that type of job.
If you are interested in being part of this great event, please fill out the google form (the link is below) or call on of the VMSS counselors for more information or to sign up.

PARENT ANNOUNCEMENTS: (New announcements are in italic)
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Please read the following on Vision Screenings: The state of Minnesota recommends that students have their vision screened during certain intervals throughout their academic career. These screenings are performed by your child’s school nurse annually during first, third, fifth, and seventh grade.
This year’s 7th grade vision screening will be on Thursday November 17.
This grade level vision screen will be supported by the LIONS club of Minnesota KidSight Program (https://www.lionskidsightusa.org/). Lions KidSight USA is a nation-wide program that brings Lions clubs across the country together to ensure our children receive eye screenings and follow-up care when needed. 1-in-3 young children have poor but correctable vision - often just needing eyeglasses. Their team of volunteers use the Spot Vision Screener which is a handheld, portable device designed to help users quickly and easily detect vision issues on patients from 6 months of age through adult. Spot screens both eyes at once from a nonthreatening 3-foot distance. The LIONS club does not keep any personal identifiable information from students. The only data collected is total number of students screened and the percentage of student referrals. The whole process takes about 3 seconds per student.
If your student does not pass the vision screen, a letter detailing your student’s results will be mailed home with a recommendation for a formal vision exam by an eye doctor.
If you choose to opt-out, please email the school nurse Hilary Gallaher at hilary.gallaher@district196.org.

From Mrs. Spychalla: Each year the Veteran’s group offers students an opportunity to enter an essay competition. Our students have participated for 16 years. Essay that are submitted to the Rosemount VFW are evaluated by the Veteran’s group. Later in the year some students are honored at a recognition and receive a token of remembrance. Usually at least one student earns an impressive award. See Ms. Pelinka or Mrs. Spychalla in room 416 for the details and a handout that gives the directions.
From Mrs. Spychalla: Reminder from the bulletin last week: The Aviation event for families will be held Saturday, September 24 at Flying Cloud Airport. Families must register on the stars of the north aviation day website. See Mrs. Spychalla in room 416 for details.
