Summer Academy

Dear Parents or Guardians,

Valley Middle School of STEM is offering a four-week Summer School Academy designed to assist ALL INCOMING 6th GRADE students in making a smooth transition to middle school life. In addition to instruction in math, reading and writing, students will receive helpful advice on how to succeed as a 6th grade student at Valley Middle School of STEM. Our teachers will help students develop the organizational and study skills necessary for middle school academic success. Additionally, teachers will be assisting students in becoming familiar with the school itself and the services we provide.

Summer School classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 8AM-12:00PM beginning Monday, June 20 and ending Thursday, July 21. Students who register must understand they are committing to attend each day of the four-week program for all four hours. Regular attendance is important though we can work around camps and other absences of one-week or less.

Week 1: June 20 - 23
Week 2: June 27 - 30
Week 3: July 11 - 14
Week 4: July 18 - 21 (No school July 4-7)

Bus transportation will be provided for those students who receive it during the school year. Magnet students do not qualify for transportation during Summer Academy. Transportation is provided upon request by completing the transportation request form located at the bottom of the attached sheet. Magnet students do not qualify for transportation during Summer Academy. You will receive a postcard from Transportation with information as to when and where the bus will pick up and/or drop off your child a week prior to summer school beginning. If you have not received information by June 16, 2022, please call Transportation at 651-423-7685.

Please discuss this opportunity with your child. Our goal is to prepare each student for a successful career in middle school. We feel this program will help students improve their fundamental skills in reading, writing, and math, increase the retention of these skills over the summer break, and assist students in making a comfortable and positive transition to middle school. If you are interested in having your child attend, please complete the attached registration form and transportation request form (if bussing is necessary). Registration forms must be returned to the main office of Valley Middle School by Friday, April 1st. I am pleased to announce that Valley Middle School of STEM is offering a 15 day Summer Academy program. This program is designed to help students keep academically engaged over the summer with extra support in reading, math and study skills. The intention of VMSS Summer Academy is to provide educational opportunities to students in order to support their continued progress towards standards:
● Develop skills
● Improve grades
● Provide an intensive and interactive learning environment
● Increase self confidence
● Make new friends
● Get inspired and find success

Students will participate in the following classes:
1. English- primary focus on reading comprehension and writing strategies
2. Math- primary focus on 7th and 8th grade math skills
3. Study Skills- primary focus of organizational skills and strategies
